Audiobooks To Exercise By

Have you made a New Year’s resolution to exercise more? Here are a couple of my favorites to keep me going back to the gym. An hour on the bike goes much faster listening to a good read. You can find this book in the Libby or Hoopla app.

Carrying Albert Home | Homer Hickman

Check it out in our online card catalog!

Summary: This is an emotionally evocative story about a man, Homer, a woman, Elsie, an alligator, Albert, and a rooster. The woman Elsie in her younger years had a brief relationship with Buddy Ebsen (yes, that Buddy Ebsen). This book is funny, sweet and often a tragic tale of the young couple as they navigate a 1,000 mile journey. Homer Hickman’s tale is ultimately a testament to that strange and marvelous emotion we inadequately call love.

Demon Copperhead | Barbara Kingsolver

Check it out in our online card catalog!

Summary: Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, this is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair. The plot rarely pauses for breath, relayed in his own unsparing voice, he braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses. Through all of it, he reckons with his own invisibility in a popular culture where even the superheroes have abandoned rural people in favor of cities.
